FAA APPROVES LYCOMING ELECTRONIC IGNITION SYSTEM FOR ROBINSON HELICOPTERS

R22 and R44 helicopters purchased after January 15, 2020, will be equipped with Lycoming’s Electronic Ignition System (EIS).
The EIS offers increased reliability, improved starting characteristics and reduced maintenance.

The EIS will replace the left starting magneto.
The right magneto will provide redundant ignition and eliminate the need for a backup power supply.

The EIS has very high spark energy, which makes starting the engine easier and eliminates internal moving parts for increased reliability.
The EIS is designed to last the life of the engine without scheduled maintenance between overhauls, eliminating the required 500-hour inspection.
